About us
Meet The Team
Tangent Space is an East Sussex-based, family-run architectural practice. Since our start in 2000, we have been focused on sustainable, low energy, low carbon and low impact architecture. How this combines with the building structures typical of the south east of England is a challenge and one that never stops testing us!
Every project is unique, just as all your ideas are. We explore every avenue to bring your dream building to life, working with you to build the home you love to live in and leaving a legacy of longevity.
Lead Architectural Designer
Apprentice Technician
Practice Manager
Meet the Tangent Space team:
Mark Wakelin, Lead Architectural Designer
Mark’s experience spans many aspects of architecture. After
studying Architectural Technology at the University of Brighton, he started out
working on listed buildings and church renovations, amassing knowledge of
sympathetic and effective ways to futureproof our oldest buildings. He then focused
on residential and commercial projects, seeing both ends of the design and
specification spectrum, before setting up Tangent Space.
As his personal interest in sustainability increased, it
didn’t take long for this to spill over into his architectural life. Now, low
impact is at the heart of every Tangent Space project and Mark is constantly on
the path to learning new ways of incorporating sustainability. Passivhaus
construction is one of Mark’s passions and he is delighted it is finally
enjoying its deserved recognition in the construction and architectural
industry.
Mark is your main point of contact at Tangent Space. He
meets with all new clients from the initial enquiry and remains in control of
the project through to its completion and sign off.
Oscar Wakelin, Apprentice Technician
Oscar is the technology whizz at Tangent Space. Since studying for his HNC at London Southbank University in 2020, he has been working with Mark and Tangent Space. He has added an essential addition to the Tangent Space skills arsenal with his continuously developing 3D modelling skills. These give clients an insight into how their finished project could look, from the internal spaces to the full house as well as garden before and afters. This has proved popular with clients as it allows them to see their new home come to life and lets them visualise themselves in that space.
Oscar supports Mark through all the key stages of every project.
Dom Firebrace, Practice Manager
Dom runs the day to day events in the office, dealing with both existing and new clients and managing the work flow on all projects.
