This month, Tangent Space celebrates 26 years in business! As we mark this incredible milestone, we are reflecting on our evolution, our achievements, and the brilliant people and projects that have shaped us into the practice we are today.

For more than two decades, our mission at Tangent Space has remained unchanged: reimagining spaces through sustainable, low-energy, low-carbon, and heritage-led design.

Sustainability is the Baseline

For us, building sustainably isn’t an add-on or an afterthought, it is the baseline for every single project we touch. While sustainability focuses on doing less harm and keeping things neutral, our ultimate goal has evolved toward regenerative architecture.

Regenerative design embodies a holistic mindset, acknowledging the interconnectedness of all systems. It calls for “seventh generation” thinking, urging us to consider the impact of our actions on future generations, spanning centuries. It’s a call to expand our horizons beyond local or national scales and embrace a planetary perspective, recognising our embeddedness in the intricate web of ecological systems. We don’t just want to sustain our environments – we want to heal and restore them.

Breathing New Life into History

A massive part of our journey has been a passion for Heritage-Led Regeneration. We thrive on the challenge of conserving, refurbishing, and renewing listed buildings. Our extensive experience lies in creatively adapting these historic gems for modern use, blending conservation expertise with innovative, sustainble interventions. By doing so, we ensure their architectural legacy endures to enrich the local identity, creating real value for contemporary living and working.
