As a qualified Passive House Practitioner, I ensure that high-performance building principles are embedded into every project from the earliest design stages here at Tangent Space.
A Passive House is a rigorous building standard developed to deliver maximum comfort with minimal energy consumption – a concept originated in Germany in the 1990s through the Passivhaus Trust Institute that has since spread globally, including across the UK.

The five key components are:
1. Super-insulation
2. Airtight construction
3. Elimination of thermal bridges
4. High-performance windows
5. Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR).
Unlike conventional buildings, a passive house achieves stable indoor temperatures with very little reliance on traditional heating or cooling systems. This makes it ideal for both new builds and retrofits. Importantly, passive house standards are measurable and certifiable through performance modelling and testing.
For homeowners, the result is a space that uses significantly less energy, lowers bills, and provides consistent indoor comfort.
